AMNRL Grand Final at Pier 40 this Friday

The New York Knights are honored to be hosting the 14th AMNRL Championship final at Pier 40 this Friday night.  Festivities will start at 8.30pm with the Knights Touch Rugby Allstars match and the main game - New York Knights vs Connecticut Wildcats will kickoff at 9.00pm.

The AMNRL has been the premier Rugby League competition for the past 14 years and this year sees two traditional rivals face off in the final.  The Knights have been the dominate side throughout the season, suffering only one loss.  Fittingly, that loss was to the Wildcats who have proven they are the only team capable of defeating the Knights.

The Knights are celebrating their ten year anniversary and will be striving for premiership number three.  Their first win was back in 2002, remarkably in their first season in the top league, while their lastest win was in 2009 when they defeated the Jacksonville Axeman.  A few members of their 2009 squad remain, but the majority of the players have yet to taste championship success.  The Knights will look to star imports Nigel Milgate, Andrew Moody and Regan Hyde to lead the way, with locals Calder Orr, John Dykeman and Ian Elliot looking to make an impact in the game.

The Wildcats will be playing in their sixth Cup Final and looking to claim their fourth national title.  They have traditionally been the Knights nemesis and it wasn't until last season that the Knights scored their first victory against them.  They last tasted Championship success in 2007 when they defeated the Aston Bulls.  They will look to star import Matt Walsh to lead the way from dummy half, while captain Curtis Cunz is expected to be dangerous out wide.

At halftime, spectators will be asked to enter the Knights kick and catch competition with the best team winning some great prizes from our sponsors.  The competition is a great way for fans to get out on the field and enjoy of taste of rugby for themselves.

It's going to be a huge night at Pier 40, so get along and be a part of the action.  Entry is free!
