The New York Knights suffered their first loss of the season this weekend to the New Haven Warriors. Despite several great individual defensive and offensive plays, the Knights were not able to convert in clutch situations.
The game opened up with the younger and smaller Knights players on their heals after an opening drive score by the warriors second row Adam Hamon. After two Knights unforced turnovers, few big Warriors prop Siose Muliumu scored the first of his three tries of the day putting the Warriors up by 12. The Knights answered back with a good run by excellent 2nd Row Joe Hughes, followed up by a heads up play by Knights Half-Back Danny Kaye. Again, the Warriors answered back with a broken tackle try under the posts making the score 18-6.
At this point the Knights confidence began to take shape and they controlled the tempo of the game by executing their game plan. They finally stuck gold after an outstanding run and try by Knights lock Jason Best, cutting the score at half-time to 18-10.
In the second half the young Knights lack of experience reared its ugly head after the Knights backs and forwards committed several crucial unforced handling errors.
This was especially hard for them after several gallant defensive efforts by Knights forwards Bart Seemen, Michael Bird, Ryan Mulligan, Rocco Forgione and Pavel Gnitetskiy all led to Warriors turnovers which the Knights were unable to convert.
However, the young Knights could see a potential victory 10 min. before full time when, following Mike McGeachy line break, a spectacular "quick hands" action on the blind side saw Bill Ezzo's pass to Levan ??? for the try on the corner. Levan ??? converted his own try, making the score to 26/22.
The last 10 minutes of the game saw the Warriors physical superiority allowing them to score their last try by big prop Siose Muliumu.
The road to the finals is still long for the Knights and Head Coach Guillaume Cieutat declared "Today, I really don't think we deserved to win according to our completion rate and the lack of direction in our game. However, the guys showed great courage and pugnacity for 80 minutes against a very physical team. We will work on our weaknesses and will be better next time!"
The Knights will prepare this week for their Saturday clash against the Philadelphia Fight on the road in Philadelphia.
