Knights hold on in a Nail-Biter 22 to 22 against Warriors! August 3, 2007
The New York Knights assured themselves a first round home game in the playoffs after a 22 to 22 tie this past Friday night at the Castle! While it will not go down in the record books as one of the Knights best performances, the game put the Knights in 4th place in the league table, just ahead of the Warriors. This means that the two will face off again next Friday night at the Castle in the 1st round of the single elimination play-offs.
Both teams started the game of slow and cautious, but after a scoring volley ensued to end the second half, it seemed that the Warriors had the upper hand and were going to finish the regular season with their second victory over the Knights. With only 2 minutes left to play Knights prop Chris Martin scored his first try of his career after a 70 yard "Barry Sanders" run from deep in the Knights end! After his “Miracle on 42nd Street” try, Martin stood in the try zone dazed and confused, almost like he could not believe what he had just done! "It was probably the best, most entertaining run that I have ever seen in this country!" said Pavel "The Russian Rocket" Gnitesky. "This is the best day of my life!” said Martin. “I am very happy to finally be able to contribute to the team in a meaningful way!" Martin whose season thus far was lackluster at best pulled off something that will certainly go down in the Knights history book!
Luca "Luigiooo" Loguercio also had a great game, making some truly bone-crunching hits against the Warriors forward pack, including one play that practically everyone in attendance agreed was almost an exact replay of the infamous Grantham Incident.
Coach Guill Cieutat was happy with the performance but cautioned the players that there work was far from over “…in order to beat them next week when it counts, we need to improve on our ball retention! If we turnover the ball we will never win!”
The Knights will practice all week in anticipation for their game against the Warriors this Friday night starting at 8:30pm at the Castle!
