Knights show heart in first loss June 20, 2008
The New York Knights dropped their first loss of the season to the New Haven 38-4. The wide score margin did not represent the close competition of the match as the Knights were only down 6-4 at the break. The Knights, lacking their full bench, spent most of the first half inside the Warriors 20m. The Knights completed their sets well and consistently put force on the Warriors try line. After exerting pressure on the Warriors’ wings early with some booming kicks, Beaudi Cullen slipped some defenders and dotted down for the Knights only try of the day.
As the game went on, the Knights lack of depth from the bench became more and more apparent. Warriors’ hooker Matt Doeg and half-back Luke Carr started carving up the middle of the Knights defense leading to several of their second half tries. Both Angel Rodriguez and Andre LaMorgia put in valiant defensive efforts against the big New Haven forwards. However, it was the tireless Kirk Miller who won the Jacobs Creek’s Man of the Match. Kirk played unrelenting defense and his big runs always kept the Knights on the front foot.
This weekend, the Knights travel to take on to defending AMNRL champs the Connecticut Wildcats. The Knights hope to rebound from the Warriors’ loss and defeat the Wildcats for the first time in club history!
