2010 Season Schedule Released; Knights Defend Title in Home Game Against Boston
The AMNRL released its 2010 schedule this week which sets the stage for an exciting season as the 2009 AMNRL Champion Knights seek to defend their title against a difficult field which includes a the new expansion team to based in Pittsburgh.
The Knights kick of their season with a Round 1 home game against the Boston 13's. Just in their second year, the 13's played very well against the Knights in last year's regular season and should promise to be in the hunt for the cup at the end of the season.
The Knights then find themselves playing the next two games on the road against perennial rivals, the New Haven Warriors in Round 2 and the Connecticut Wildcats in Round 3. The Wildcats, who after a disappointing season last year, look to rebuild under the management of current Tomahawk backrower, Curtis Cunz.
After a bye in Round 4, the Knights will travel to Jacksonville for a replay of last years Grand Final match against the Axemen.
In Round 6 the Knights will face the newest team to the league, the Pittsburgh Vipers. While more will be known about the Vipers as the season progresses, the fact that they come from such a "blue collar", sports crazed city that has produced several World Championship teams including the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers, the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and the MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates, it is certain that the Vipers are destined to become one of the toughest teams in the AMNRL.
Finally the Knights conclude their regular season with a home game against the ever improving Northern Raiders.
"I am looking forward to a great season" said Knights CEO Rob Balachandran. " While it is always harder to defend the Cup then it is to try and take it away from a team, I am confident that our returning head Coach Gull Cieutat will have the boys ready for the challenge!"
