Knights Narrowly Defeat Slayers 36-34 in a War at the Shore Thriller
July 14, 2007 Sea Isle, NJ

The New York Knights traveled to the 10th annual War at the Shore feeling confident that the beautiful weather that lay at hand would give them an easy run against our capitals team, the D.C. Slayers. In past clashes the victor has always been the New York Knights, this giving them the sense of an easy day at work. This was not to be. As both teams took the feild and eyed each other, the feeling of an easy day at the office went out the window.

The Slayers, lead by captain and Tomahawk Martin O'Donoghue started the game off with a bang scoring very quickly minutes after the first kick. A few minutes later, the Knights found themselves back trapped in their own red zone with the big, mobile Slayers pack plowing their way in for another try. The Knights were able to answer back however with a try by Ryan Mulligan, but quickly found themselves defending their line again after a series of missed tackles brought the Slayers back to the Knight's try zone. Knights half back and man of the match Adam Nable was able to put the Knights ahead by setting up Jeremy "Jezza" Kosbob between two defenders from 10 meters out, as well as a brilliant behind the back pass to "BIG" Bart Seeman who placed down in the try zone just minutes later. The Knights charged back again with another try after a 40 meter run by new standout second row Kirk Miller. However just like Aunt Bessie's cow from the famous Chicago fire "..she gave one good bucket of milk, and then turned around and kicked it over!", the Knights turned the ball over again to the Slayers who raced down the field 80 yards to score just before the half time whistle blew, making the score 22-18.

The second half started out the same as the first for the Knights with the Slayers scoring in the corner after a series of missed tackles by the Knights back line! The Knights answered back with a try set up by young prop Jason Best to Rob Balachandran. After a volley of scores by both teams, the Knights found themselves holding on to a 2 point lead when the whistle blew ending the game.

Knights Coach Guill Cieutat was happy with the win but not very impressed with the teams performance "we did not respect our game plan at all! If it was not for our heart and better fitness we may have lost the game! We will work on our mistakes this week at training and hope that we can move forward from here"

The Knights get ready this week to host the Aston Panthers at the Castle this Friday night at 9pm!
