Knights Suffer First Loss Of The Season 2006-07-22

The New York Knights went down to Connecticut 32 - 20 at the Castle, recording the first loss of the season. They now will face the formidable task of facing the New Haven Warriors in the first playoff game to be played  The Castle this Friday night at 9pm.

The New York Knights started out slowly and a few silly errors had the Wildcats attacking their line in no time. Danny Bull crashed over followed quickly by another Connecticut try and New York looked vulnerable. However as the Knights often do they stormed back with Jeremy Kosbob getting his first of two for the Knights and Col Manners crossing coon after.

With the scores locked at 12 all the game started to resemble the usual Knights vs Wildcats showdown of no quarter asked or given with both foward packs battering each other and young Americans Will Brazier and Ryan Mulligan elevating their games to new levels. New York utility player Roger Tuamoaluah pulled of some monstrous hits that had the large crowd on awe.

The rest of the game see-sawed back and forth and the standard of Rugby League was the highest to be found in the US. With 15 minutes to go the Wilcats edged ahead 22-20 but it was still anyones game. However some poor goal-line defence let Rich Portale and David Lloyd sneak over the line and seal the game for Connecticut.

"Full marks to Connecticut, they were great tonite, but our boys still did us proud, mark my words , we will be back", stated Rob Balachandran. Best for the Wildcats were Brazier, Bull and Lloyd, whilst Mulligan, Nable and Tuamoalua were the pick of the Knights.
