Side Tackling

Side Tackling

On approach to the tackle, try and remain upright as possible and set up so the tackle is to be made with head in behind the ball carrier.

Drop by bending the knees. Shoulders higher than hips. Contact with part of shoulder close to neck. Chin up, neck in line with spine and eyes on target.

Wrap arms and hands tightly around ball carrier. The tacklers hips should be lower to maintain straighter back allowing a more powerful contact.

The ball-carriers momentum and the tacklers strong leg dive forces the ball carrier to the ground.

The tackler should finish on top of the ball carrier.
